Dysphagia: a common primary care problem -

Dysphagia can make swallowing solid medications difficult for some patients and it is estimated that between 15 and 33 per cent of residents have problems taking tablets and capsules. There is little data about the incidence in primary care and an audit was carried out on a selected patient population to estimate the incidence of dysphagia relating to medicines. It was found that 11 per cent had some degree of medication related dysphagia.
